not much to say here because there is too much to say here. it is evangelion.

rewatched it at different ages and it keeps hitting different spots. the robots were never the point; the point is shinji sitting in a train, or on a beach, or in his own head, while everything around him falls apart. the ending is not a trick. it is the whole show in miniature: someone forced to finally sit with their own feelings, with the orange sky and no escape hatch.
